Just a Note:
Most people realize when they are looking at an auto that has
been altered and restored but people may not realize that the
same thing can happen with scale models. The models in
these pictures (those of mine and other enthusiasts) have been
painted, color sanded and polished just like the big cars.
And, like the big cars, many have had after market parts added
such as scale plug wires, battery cables, heater hoses, seat
belts, fire extinguishers, and so on. Like the big car
customs, these plastic models have had plastic panels added,
molded, melted. Bodies have been chopped, channeled, and
sectioned. Parts such as wheels, tires and engines have
been exchanged. It is not uncommon to see a 1:24 scale
auto that has had over 200 loving, frustrating hours put into
it.
So
next time you have an opportunity to view a display of the model
cars, take a second look and honor the patient, hard working,
slightly eccentric men, women and children who built them.
