Mike Hester was a friend
and fellow auto model maker. He passed away
of complications associated with diabetes in 2002. I present this
page as a tribute to a good man and good friend.
Mike is the one who
re-introduced me to my auto roots. I had not thought much about
hot rods or models since I was 17. Thanks to Mike I began building
models again, joining the Puget Sound Auto Modelers Association (PSAMA)
in 2001.
I
did not know him very long, but long enough to learn that he was a
skilled modeler who loved his hobby and Corvettes. He was a
gentle, decent man who was open and friendly to all who approached him.
He always made time to answer questions, give advice, or just talk.
The club (PSAMA) that
he gave so much to has created the "Mike Hester Memorial Award",
presented each year at the club's annual May show.
The cars shown here
were his last two completed. They reflect his skill, perfectionism
and pure enjoyment of the hobby.
I wish I had been given
more time to get to know Mike but I am glad for the time I knew him.
He is and will continue to be missed and remembered by those who knew
him. |
